Acunmedya was founded in 2004 by Acun Ilıcalı, who began his media career in the 1990s.
As a production company, Acunmedya acquired the rights to many internationally recognized formats such as "Var Mısın Yok Musun," "Fear Factor," "Survivor," "Yetenek Sizsiniz," "Yok Böyle Dans," "Ninja Warrior," and "Rising Star," adapting them for the Turkish audience. These formats have been broadcast during prime time on the most-watched television channels.
Acunmedya incorporated the TV8 channel into its portfolio in 2013.
With a complete overhaul of the programming schedule, the channel's 1% viewership rate significantly increased thanks to Acunmedya's productions, making TV8 one of the most-watched TV channels in Türkiye.
TV8,5, a channel known for its sports content, launched in 2016.
Following its success in Türkiye, Acunmedya continued to expand its achievements internationally with new projects. In partnership with Greece’s Skai TV, Acunmedya produced formats such as The Voice, Survivor, Got Talent, and My Style Rocks. Programs aired on Skai TV achieved up to 70% viewership, increasing the channel’s monthly prime-time average from 1% to 43%, resulting in a significant boost for the channel. Following this major success, Acunmedya began undertaking large-scale productions worldwide, establishing itself with major projects across different countries.
After Greece, Acunmedya expanded into Brazil and Mexico with the launch of its original format, Exatlon.
Owned by Acunmedya, Exatlon is a sports-reality competition that demands physical and mental endurance, and it continues to achieve worldwide success with record-breaking ratings.
Acunmedya entered the Romanian and Colombian markets with its original format Exatlon and partnered with NBC Universal/Telemundo to bring Exatlon to Hispanic audiences in the United States.
With 15 years of production expertise, Acunmedya established the world’s largest and most innovative production center on an area exceeding 3 million square meters in the Dominican Republic.
At the ACM Production Hub, formats such as Exatlon, Survivor, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Here, Money or Love, and many others are produced simultaneously for multiple countries and turned into broadcast-ready content within just a few days.
The original format Exatlon premiered in Hungary and achieved record-breaking ratings.
Acunmedya continued producing formats throughout the pandemic, and Exatlon Challenge, featuring Türkiye’s famous YouTube, Twitch, and Instagram influencers competing, was released on Netflix as a 15-episode series.
Exxen, launched with the slogan "Türkiye’s Digital Platform," began broadcasting with a wide range of intriguing series, comedy shows, competitions, documentaries, sports events, movies, and entertaining, exciting content. It quickly surpassed 1 million subscribers.
Acunmedya Akademi was established in 2021 through a collaboration between Nişantaşı University and Acunmedya to train qualified and educated professionals for the industry.
Successful graduates from Acunmedya Akademi’s departments in television, gastronomy, digital media, and software have the opportunity to work and intern primarily at Acunmedya, as well as in many other sectors.
Exatlon, which has a large audience in every country it airs, has reached viewers in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, and Bulgaria.
Hull City Football Club, one of England’s historic clubs, was acquired by Acunmedya and added to the group’s portfolio. Thanks to investments made, the value of Hull City, competing in the English Championship League, has more than tripled in just 1.5 years.
NK Maribor, established in 1960, is one of Slovenia’s most historic football clubs. In 2023, Acunmedya Group incorporated NK Maribor into its portfolio, continuing its investments in the European football industry.
Acunmedya has signed a strategic partnership with SPORT1, one of Germany’s leading television channels.
Through this agreement, SPORT1 has gained access to a wide range of Acunmedya’s successful international entertainment and sports programs. Formats such as Exatlon, Survivor, My Style Rocks, MasterChef, and Power of Love are now reaching audiences on German television via SPORT1.
